Get Out & About: Catonsville’s Turkey Bowl 2010

A good friend to the PVRC and local small business owner, Debbie Welsh, has put together a rather fabulous event going on this Sunday.  The first annual Catonsville Turkey Bowl is bound to become a local tradition.  Part of spreading the conservative message requires us to be involved in our communities, to be ever present across our district.  We can’t just show up every four years and expect people to jump on board with our candidates.  I invite you to start branching out beyond PVRC events, beyond Republican events, and build relationships with the citizens of District 12A.  This is our home after all.

This Sunday, December 5 at 10 am at the Hillcrest Elementary ball fields, join Debbie and other locals for a little flag football, food, fun, and a super cool T-shirt.  The cost is $12 and you get it all.  Seriously, most of you would spend more on breakfast and with this you get a shirt too.  Oh and let’s not forget the opportunity to work off some of those inches added to our waistlines over a certain turkey holiday.

Here is how Debbie described the event: “A nice fun, friendly game of flag football and as the kids mature maybe regular football!  Have adorable tees and we will be cooking breakfast around 930 at Catonsville Elementary.  Eggs, sausage, fruit and muffins. Mini tailgate any everyone can get ready for the Pitt game that night.  Cost is $12 only for the kids who play football and get a teeshirt and the rest will cover food for everyone. IT IS NOT $12 A PERSON. JUST WANT TO GET COST BACK FOR TEES AND SOME FOOD.  WE WILL HAVE A BATCH OF BLOODY MARYS, FIRST COME FIRST SERVE.  PLEASE RSVP ASAP, SO I CAN GET IDEA OF TEES AND FOOD!!!! HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE, EVEN IF YOUR CHILD DOESN’T WANT TO PLAY FOOTBALL JUST COME AND HANG OUT A LITTLE BREAK BEFORE THE CRAZY HOLIDAY RUSH STARTS!!”

So come on out and help us support our friend and the community. RSVP to Debbie, welshcatonsville@aol.com,  ASAP if you wish to participate.

What about “Young Americans for Freedom”?

It’s no secret that the state of Maryland is the deepest of blues as far as political parties are concerned. For this reason, it is nearly impossible to have any red candidates elected in the metropolitan area and surrounding, which is where 2/3rds of the state’s population is located.

That is why there is such a need for the strong presence of Young Americans for Freedom within this state, particularly on college campuses. There is a certain stigma associated with the name “Republican,” causing people to turn away from it regardless of principle. Recently, this political party has lost its clout nationally, largely due to the fact that citizens in Maryland are unaware of what Republicans – or conservatives, libertarians, etc. – really stand for.

Young Americans for Freedom helps bridge this large gap while helping young people understand what they really believe. YAF’s mission is to instill in young people all over the nation the values and principles on which this nation was founded while keeping it fun and interesting. It helps to remove the focus from the two-party divide to focus on the principles that drive our decisions.

Several notable figures are involved in the founding of Young Americans for Freedom, including Barry Goldwater, Republican nominee for president in 1964, and one of the greatest and most successful conservative presidents in United States history, Ronald Reagan. These brilliant, conservative men were at the forefront of YAF, which would not be what it is today if not for them.

Currently, UMBC is working with Maryland YAF in starting our own branch in the near future. Myself along with several students, with the support of the UMBC College Republicans leadership are looking into starting our own chapter in an effort to create a larger presence of like-minded individuals who may not realize they are like-minded but really don’t want to associate with a party.

I am personally so excited to be working with this organization. Youth in Maryland will now have an outlet from which they can gather information on issues in such a way that does not have a political party attached to it. I cannot wait to see how YAF grows in this state, and what it will do to the grassroots conservative movement among college students and young professionals!

For any of you who are interested in learning more about this amazing organization can go to their website: www.yaf.com. There is also going to be a State Meeting for the Maryland YAF branch this Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 1pm at the Stained Glass Pub next to the Glenmont metro in Silver Spring. Please come if you want to learn more about how Young Americans for Freedom is looking to grow within Maryland.

It’s a Little Quiet in Here

We know that the last couple of weeks have been a bit on the quiet side.  After the explosion in Prince George’s county, it seemed the wave would never end.  But alas, it did.  Although there are always new developments in politics, even on the hyper-local level, lately it seems that all there is to talk about is the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee.  Since we’re not really in the business of tearing apart our own party and given the fact that many of your frequent bloggers are intricately tied to the committee, it just didn’t make sense for us to be furthering the circus-like banter.  And you all know how hard it is for me to turn down an opportunity to be feisty.

Hopefully everything will die down soon and we can get back to our regularly scheduled programming.   In the meantime, bear with us.  Eventually we’ll be able to talk about the events of the past weeks with a giggle and a slight hint of sarcasm, but for now the emotions are raw and tensions and high.  Let’s not fuel any fires today today, except those in our fireplaces of course.

Speaking of weather, I hope you’re all enjoying the change to my wintry like conditions.  I don’t know about you, but it would sure be nice to have a white Christmas this year, not a blizzard, or a burial…just a sweet, light layer of fluffy snow.  And on that note, good day folks.

Help Save Maryland Asks Governor O’Malley to Drop Charges Against Baltimore County Man Accused of Making "Threat"

ROCKVILLE MD – Help Save Maryland (HSM) asks Governor Martin O’Malley to drop charges against Walter Abbott, a Baltimore County man whose drywall business has been ruined by unfair competition from illegal aliens. The loss of his livelihood and home led Abbott to send an angry e-mail to Governor O’Malley on March 19, 2008. Abbott was subsequently arrested, held on $2 million bail and accused of threatening to "strangle" a public official.

"In no way does Help Save Maryland condone the use of threats and improper language," says Brad Botwin, HSM Director "But Mr. Abbott was understandably frustrated by the way unlicensed subcontractors hiring illegal aliens are allowed to undercut legitimate businesses in Maryland every day. State officials knowingly turn a blind eye to these labor and tax law violations. The fact that Mr. Abbott included his full name, address and phone number in his e-mail proves he was simply venting."

Mr. Abbott lost his first trial, but successfully appealed and is now scheduled for retrial on December 8, in the Circuit Court of Baltimore County, Towson.

Mr. Abbott and his entire family have suffered substantially, both financially and psychologically, for over 2 years. The State of Maryland should drop the charges against him immediately. To retry Abbott is a waste of Maryland’s resources, and makes Governor O’Malley look mean-spirited and petty.

"Instead, Governor O’Malley should take Mr. Abbott out for a ‘beer summit’ and listen to his story of the pain and suffering Maryland’s sanctuary status for illegal aliens or "New Americans" in O’Malley vernacular, is causing working-class citizens."

Help Save Maryland is a grass-roots, multi-ethnic, non-partisan, 501 (c) 3 volunteer citizens’ organization opposed to the use of tax dollars on programs and services for illegal aliens in Maryland. It has members in 23 counties plus Baltimore City.

Get Involved: AFP December Meeting

Yes, the election is over, but that doesn’t mean you get to drop of the face of the earth for three years.  That goes for you too, Mr. Hooe.   We have to stay fresh, educated and involved.  If you’re free on December 2, or even if you have to reschedule dinner with your Aunt Gertrude, I’d highly reccommend the trek up to Towson for this AFP Meeting.  The topic of discussion will be redistricting.  This is a huge threat state and countywide for conservatives.  As if the state isn’t blue enough, right?  Greedy, power hungry douchebags.

And if you are going, let me know.  I’d love to have someone take some notes and pictures so we can report about it here on the blog.  Unfortunately I have plans that night, so yes, I’m trying to con one of your avid readers into doing my dirty work.  Sue me.  Hey, I’d give full credit to my source.  I’m not that kind of girl, peeps.

Regardless of whether you’re willing to be my eyes and ears, just go.  The AFP are a driving force for conservatives in Maryland.

TSA Scanners: Problem Solved!

SHARED WITH ME VIA EMAIL:

Here’s the solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports:

Have a booth that you can step into that will not x-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have on your body.

It would be a win-win for everyone, and there would be none of this crap about racial profiling.

This method would eliminate a long and expensive trial. Justice would be quick and swift.

This is so simple that it’s brilliant. I can see it now. You’re in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion.

Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system:

“Attention standby passengers. We now have a seat available on flight number 4665 “.

“Paging maintenance. Shop Vac needed in booth number 4″.

A Board of Favors

I was just listening to talk radio and heard an interview with actress and constitutional activist Janine Turner. Of course I tuned in more because she was an actress on one of my favorite shows, Friday Night Lights. However the content of the interview intrigued me more and even got me to thinking about our own system.

What Janine and her colleagues do is travel the nation encouraging our school systems to teach more about the constitution. Funny that you have to lobby principals and teachers to implement such programs. Believe it or not the response is mixed. Some schools don’t want our kids to learn about a document at the very foundation of our country.

While I’m listening to this, I’m thinking about Baltimore County and who makes the decisions about curriculum in our classrooms. Now I’m not an expert on the topic, but I would imagine it at least originates with our Board of Education, our unelected, appointed by the county executive, Board of Education. Do you see a problem yet?

Allow me to tell you a story I was told at the Arts & Crafts Festival just before the primaries. A man approached the Whisler booth and began to fill us in on board politics. First of all, the Board of Education should not be mixed with politics, period. But in this county apparently, positions on the board are used like bartering tools. One County Council primary contender was allegedly offered a board position if he/she withdrew from the race. And the man standing before me was ousted for simply disagreeing with our County Executive, Jim Smith.

Is this the kind of shenanigans we want going on with the people that decide our kid’s educational future? Why is it that the Baltimore County doesn’t elect their Board of Ed? We seem to be one of the few, state and nationwide, that don’t.

Here’s an argument on the pro side of electing them. It’s clear that the people on the board either don’t have kids or are so far removed from the situation, they can no longer think like a parent. Someone please explain to me the thought process behind schools letting out the day before Christmas Eve or scheduling 3 days off within the first two weeks of school, or having them out for teacher conferences the Monday before Thanksgiving. Can I get some shouts out here? Am I the only parent in the world who thinks this is absurd. At least if these representatives were elected, we’d have a say as to who exactly makes these decisions instead of allowing a super elite bunch of the County Executive’s friends to do it for us.

Rangel Him Up and Send Him Home

It’s not often that we reach outside of the state of Maryland for stories.  Believe me, there is plenty to talk about within the confines of this so-blue-it’s-almost-black state, but given our recent posts on corruption and scandal among politicians, I thought it appropriate to comment on today’s events.

This morning, an eight person House Ethics panel found New York’s 20-term congressman, Charlie Rangel, guilty on 11 of the 13 financial and fundraising misconduct counts against him.  Now they must decide his punishment.   Here are some of the possible sanctions: a House vote deploring his actions, a fine, and denial of privileges.  Seriously?  That’s it?  You mean he gets to keep his job?  I bet the people of New York’s 15th District are overflowing with pride right now.  Wait a second, maybe they actually are considering they just reelected this man to office on November 2.  It’s a sad day for America when criminals can garner 80% of the flipping vote.  Literally, I’m sick to my stomach.

So did Charlie Rangel just decide to go the way of corruption?  Did he come to a fork in the road and choose the one less traveled by?  I think not.  The guy’s been in office for 40 years, long enough to figure out loop holes, strong arm nay-sayers, and pretty much develop such an ego that he feels he’s above it all. It’s actually amazing to me that it took them this long to actually catch the idiot.

The House Democrats should really be ashamed of themselves.  They purposefully held off this hearing until after the mid-term elections.  What was that thing we kept hearing about – transparency?  Hhmmm, haven’t seen much of that from Pelosi and her lackeys.  Here we have a man who should be behind bars and yet he’s going to get a slap on the hand and sent back to work.  So what if he gets fined?  He’ll just pull it from his vast reserves of undocumented money.  And privileges?  Sure it will suck for a while, but the man still gets a vote.  Corrupt politicians don’t care about disgrace.  It’s a small price to pay for power, right?

Rangel didn’t even show up for his trial.  Nope, I take that back.  He did show up, then walked out after the panel denied him a continuance because he could no longer afford his council.  Interesting?  You mean he didn’t save some of the money he was hiding from the IRS.  You’d think that in all that money he saved from tax evasion, he’d have something stored up for his own defense.  And what did he expect…a public defender?  It’s like these people don’t even live in reality.  If I was accused of crime, not only would there be criminal ramifications such as incarceration or probation, but the rest of my life would suffer.  As a small business owner, my credibility would be questioned and my business would most likely fall apart.  Who would trust me with their money if I were a convicted criminal?  I wouldn’t, and yet there’s this 20-flippin-term congressman in New York who not only violated the ethics of Congress, he broke the freaking law.  The man should be impeached, if that’s even possible, and sent home.

The Downward Spiral of PG County Continues

Today nine more people were arrested in PG County, three of which were police officers.   Now we have cops involved in helping to smuggle cigarettes and tobacco to evade taxes.  Is anyone else out there just scratching their heads?  What the hell is going on down there?  And can I just ask this question?  Why wait until after the election to make the sting?  Clearly the feds have been watching them for a while.  Were they just waiting for underwear and toilets  to enter the picture before they could act?

And Dems demonize us.  Interesting, really!  This type of corruption WOULD NOT HAPPEN IN A BALANCED, TWO PARTY STATE.  Sure, there’s corruption in politics even when there is representation from the other side.  It’s sad but when people believe they’re above the law, what do you expect?  We see the same sort of crap in Hollywood.  The difference is this:  there are absolutely no checks and balances in PG County.  If I were a betting woman, I’d say there’s more to this mud pit then meets the eye.  There’s probably so many people with their hands in the cookie jar of corruption, it’s not even funny.  And it wasn’t funny to begin with.  I’m not saying that there aren’t corrupt Republicans.  We’re all human and we’re all capable of doing wrong.  But I wonder (and I have not studied this scientifically) if you were to do case studies on corruption in politics, what would you find?  Would you find that it festered in places where both sides were equally represented?  My guess…not so much. Misdeeds are not fond of the light, and when you have people of differing opinions breathing down your neck, it’s a little hard to hide all those imperfections.

So why is it that places like PG County continue to vote in one stinking party?  Are they uneducated?  Are they so indebted to the Democrat party that they can’t imagine voting for anyone else?  Is it a race issue?  I really don’t think so.  Do you know why?  The people of Prince Georges and other neighboring counties had the opportunity to vote for a black congressman, a man who was running against an old, white man.  What was wrong with Charles Lollar?  It certainly wasn’t the color of his skin as I’m pretty sure that African Americans make up a large part of the vote in PG County.  No, it was because he had an R next to his name.  Same thing happened to Michael Steele in 2006.  Young, energetic black man running against a slightly older than middle aged white man and he lost.  I remember watching African American leaders referring to Steele as an Oreo, black on the outside and white on the inside.  Now, there is no mistaking.  I’m a white girl.  Can’t change that.  Had no say in that, but hearing a man like Steele be harassed because he had the gall to be black and a Republican was absolutely disgusting to me.

You can’t convince me that it’s a race issue.  It’s not.  It’s a one-party brainwashing issue.  The people of PG, Montgomery and Baltimore City have bought into a big, flipping lie.  Somehow they believe that the Dems are there saviors.  Let me ask this.  Are they better off today?  Or are they stuck in an endless cycle, always dependent on the government to survive.  Really, what have the Democrats done for them?  Seriously!  Someone please explain to me what exactly is so great about the Democratic party.  They’re no different today than when they were standing on the steps of schools in Alabama opposing the end of segregation.  They just got better at hiding their true desire to enslave those less fortunate then them.  And it’s true, they don’t discriminate.  They don’t care what your race is or your gender, your economic status or your sexual preference.  They want to enslave you all, wringing the wallets of those that have and those that work while hypnotizing the less fortunate with milk and honey.  It kind of reminds me of the Matrix.  What they don’t see won’t hurt them right?

Except we can see, and with the help of the web and free media, word spreads rather fast.  Those of us unplugged have a message to send.  Beware peeps.  Their are some mighty hungry watchdogs monitoring your every move.  A word to the wise, for those politicians up here in Baltimore County, who might be tempted to take a payback or a bribe, beware.  We’re watching.
