Voters should have final say on immigrant tuition plan

April 26, 2011

The voters of Maryland should and must have the opportunity to decide if our tax dollars will be used to subsidize the college education of illegal immigrants. This will have to be put on the 2012 election ballot in Maryland.

This issue is too important to be forced on the taxpayers by a handful of elected officials in Annapolis who have a political Interest and agenda. The Maryland Dream Act, sponsored by state Sen. Victor Ramirez and Del. Anna Sol Gutierrez passed by a slim majority in both the House of Delegates and Senate.

This radical legislation propels Maryland to the forefront of leading sanctuary states in the country. There was and still is strong vocal opposition to this legislation from Democrats, Republicans and independents across the state. The bottom line here is that we can’t afford this liberal giveaway.

Illegals Tuition Bill – SB 167

REFERENDUM NOW!

Website should be fully functional by Friday!

Thank you to Ann Miller for the content that follows, why re-invent the wheel, so I’ve ‘plagiarized’ her notice and adjusted for the purposes of this blog.

Folks,

There is a huge effort underway statewide to overturn the legislation passed that would give in-state tuition to illegal immigrants at Maryland colleges.  The in-state tuition program is heavily subsidized by the state, meaning taxpayer money, to the projection by the state of $3.5 million in the first five years.  For more info, see the petition effort website at www.mdpetitions.com.
In Baltimore County, we have a minimum goal of 5,000 signatures before May 31.  This is a “drop everything else for two months” type of initiative.
We are asking for volunteers to help collect signatures with a commitment of collecting 100 signatures before May 31.  If you can help, please contact Dave Aughenbaugh at 410-719-2682 or augieboy@gmail.com or Al Nalley at 410-375-3320 or alnalley@verizon.net .  We expect full participation by the PVRC and friends.  With our members help, each collecting 100 signatures each before the first deadline, we expect to contribute our share of signatures to help meet our county goal!  Please confirm your participation.
Attached is all the information you need to get started today.  Please be very familiar with the rules – they are designed to invalidate many of the sigs you will be collecting.  If you have any questions at all, please contact Dave or Al.
Thank you for helping to save Maryland from this devastating legislation.  And we also thank Delegate Neil Parrott of Washington County for spearheading this effort.

THE COMING REFERENDUM TO ALLOW CITIZENS TO DECIDE ON IN-STATE TUITION FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS

IN THE FINAL HOURS OF THE MARYLAND GENERAL ASSEMBLY SESSION, THE IN-STATE COLLEGE TUITION FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS BILL PASSED BOTH THE SENATE AND HOUSE ALONG PARTY LINES. DESPITE BEING SEVERLY OUTNUMBERED THE REPUBLICAN SENATORS AND DELEGATES HELD ON, FORCED AMENDMENTS AND FOUGHT TO THE BITTER END. IT WAS LIKE THE BATTLE OF THE ALAMO!

IN MY YEARS OF ATTENDING AND TESTIFYING IN ANNAPOLIS, I HAVE NEVER WITNESSED SUCH WELL THOUGHT OUT ARGUMENTS, QUESTIONS, DEBATE AND PASSION AGAINST THIS LAWLESS LEGISLATION. THOSE WHO QUESTION THE INTEGRITY OF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND THEIR INABILITY TO TRULY REPRESENT THE CITIZENS OF MARYLAND, AT LEAST ON THE ISSUE OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, NEED TO RETHINK THEIR POSITION. ONE SIDE OF THE AISLE DID THEIR JOB AND THEN SOME.

THE SPONSORS OF THE LEGISLATION, FROM SENATOR VICTOR RAMIREZ (D-PG COUNTY) TO DELEGATE ANNA SOL GUTIERREZ (D-MONTGOMERY COUNTY) COULD ONLY SQUIRM AND UTTER MINDLESS PLATITUDES, CLEARLY UNABLE TO DEFEND OR JUSTIFY THIS RADICAL, UNNECESSARY AND COSTLY LEGISLATION.

AND LIKE THE ALAMO, THIS DEFEAT HAS AWAKENED THE CITIZENRY OF MARYLAND TO QUESTION THE PRIORITIES AND LEADERSHIP OF GOVERNOR MARTIN O’ MALLEY AND THE DOMINATE PARTY LEADERS IN ANNAPOLIS.

A LEADER HAS RISEN, READY TO SPARK A STATE-WIDE FIRE TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF A REFERENDUM TO ALLOW CITIZENS ACROSS MARYLAND TO HAVE THE FINAL, DECISIVE WORD –SHOULD IN-STATE TUITION SHOULD BE GRANTED TO ILLEGAL ALIEN LAWBREAKERS OR NOT? HIS NAME IS DELEGATE NEIL PARROTT FROM WASHINGTON COUNTY.

IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS HELP SAVE MARYLAND, AS PART OF OUR EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ACTIVITIES, WILL PROVIDE INFORMATION DISTRIBUTED BY DELEGATE PARROTT TO YOU. THE FIRST STEP WILL BE TO COLLECT VOTER SIGNATURES IN TWO MONTHS FROM 100,000 CITIZENS ACROSS THE STATE TO ALLOW THE REFERENDUM TO BE ON THE NEXT VOTER BALLOT. THIS IS A MAJOR TASK THAT WILL BE UNDERTAKEN COUNTY BY COUNTY.

VOLUNTEERS WILL BE NEEDED TO SUPPORT DELEGATE PARROTT — HSM WILL ALSO PROVIDE CONTACT INFORMATION SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO BE PART AN ACTIVE PART OF THE VOTER PETITION SIGNATURE COLLECTION AND OVERALL REFERENDUM INITIATIVE.

REMEMBER, GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN CITIZENS GET INVOLVED! STAY TUNED.

Give immigration enforcement a try

When laws are administered, jobs open for unemployed Americans

By Rep. Lamar Smith The Washington Times 6:04 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Critics of immigration enforcement often claim our immigration system is broken and that enforcement of immigration laws will not solve this problem. But this argument is flawed because we have never tried to fully enforce our immigration laws. Critics embrace the legalization of millions of illegal immigrants, a so-called solution that has been tried in the past and failed.

We have the means at our disposal to stem illegal immigration, but the Obama administration is going in the wrong direction.

For example, state and local governments can partner with the federal government through the 287(g) program to assist in the enforcement of immigration laws, yet the administration has weakened this successful program.

Work-site enforcement activities, which open up jobs for American workers and legal immigrants, have dropped by 70 percent under the Obama administration.

And E-Verify, a Web-based system that enables employers to verify the work eligibility of newly hired employees, remains voluntary. Expanding E-Verify and encouraging more businesses to use the program is an important step toward protecting jobs for American workers and eliminating the jobs magnet that draws millions of illegal workers to the United States.

Because our immigration laws are not fully enforced, millions of illegal immigrants are enticed to enter the United States each year because they know they are unlikely to be caught and sent home. Illegal immigration costs taxpayers billions of dollars each year, forces Americans to compete with illegal immigrants for scarce jobs and drives down wages for legal workers.

Because we’ve never fully enforced our immigration laws across the United States, why not try? The facts show that when immigration laws are enforced, illegal immigrants leave on their own and wages go up for Americans and legal workers. In states that have passed tough new laws cracking down on the employment of illegal immigrants, the illegal immigrant population has declined.

Take Arizona, for example. In 2007, the Legal Workers Act was signed into law, requiring all employers to use E-Verify. Arizona’s illegal immigrant population then dramatically shrank. In fact, Arizona’s population of illegal immigrants of working age fell by about 17 percent.

Recently, local law enforcement officials in Phoenix conducted work-site enforcement activities at several Pei Wei restaurants and found the restaurants had employed many illegal immigrants, including dishwashers.

A local TV news report followed up afterward and found that hundreds of unemployed American workers lined up to interview for those jobs, including the dishwashing jobs that some claim Americans won’t do.

There are similar stories all across the United States. When Georgia’s Crider Inc. lost more than 600 illegal workers after work-site enforcement actions, the company increased wages a dollar an hour and attracted legal workers.

In light of these results, imagine what would happen if immigration laws were fully and consistently enforced across the country. The result of making it more difficult for illegal immigrants to take jobs in the United States would be to encourage them to leave and also to serve as a deterrent to those thinking about coming into the U.S. illegally.

We should try full enforcement of immigration laws. Unemployed Americans and hardworking taxpayers deserve no less.

ONE OF MY “FAVORITE” QUOTES FROM THE IN-STATE TUITION DEBATE FROM CASA OF MARYLAND

Students from Baltimore City and Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties are planning to watch the debate Wednesday, said Kim Propeack, organizing director at the immigrant advocacy group Casa de Maryland.

“They want to be there for a core moment in their struggle for civil rights,” she said.

CASA HAS ALSO BE FLEXING THEIR TENTACLES IN OTHER ARENAS, PUSHING WITH OTHER RADICAL GROUPS TO CUT U.S. MILITARY SPENDING AND FUNDING MORE DOMESTIC NEEDS. THAT MEANS THEY WANT MORE TAX DOLLARS TO BRING IN MORE ILLEGAL ALIENS TO MARYLAND.

MORE PROPAGANDA FROM THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF LA RAZA (NCLR), “THE RACE”, A NATIONAL RADICAL HISPANIC GROUP OPPOSED TO THE RULE OF LAW. THIS PLEDGE IS A DISGRACE.

NCLR calls on Congress to oppose irresponsible and inflammatory rhetoric toward Latinos and focus on finding solutions to the nation’s most pressing concerns that work for all Americans. The struggling economy, our broken immigration system, and the many issues that prevent our nation’s children from reaching their potential all work against the future of America and its families. While we do not expect everyone to always agree with our positions, we ask that each and every member of Congress pledge to:

1. Acknowledge that Latinos make economic, civic, and cultural contributions to our communities and to the nation.

2. Engage in civil discourse and publicly oppose irresponsible rhetoric that dehumanizes and scapegoats Latinos, exploiting xenophobia for political gain.

3. Take a solutions-oriented, fact-based approach to evaluating public policy options for solving our nation’s most pressing problems.

4. Meet with advocates and leaders from the Hispanic nonprofit and business communities to hear a Latino perspective on the issues and to find areas of common ground based on our shared values and interests.

PVRC: "aNew” Leadership Team

Recently, as you may have heard, the PVRC held it’s elections. Although the mission remains the same, the new leadership team will take the reigns from the old in hopes to make anew.

a·new

[uh-noo, uh-nyoo]

–adverb

1. over again; again; once more: to play the tune anew.

2. in a new form or manner: to write the story anew.

While the mission remains the same, we’ll focus on the latter definition of “anew”, in a new form or manner.

First, I want to recognize the previous leadership team(s) for creating and fostering the club through it’s infancy, the awkward years and it’s most recent adolescence. The charge of the new leadership team is to be aware of the importance of building coalitions in new and different ways, by incorporating new media, community outreach, and fundraising, as well as expanding the active participation of the club. This team will lead us out of adolescence and into maturity. How we label that will be defined by their success. I believe the general membership recognized that, and from within elected this new leadership team. At the very same time, they issued a challenge, a challenge that these very capable people will live up to, and likely surpass.

A BIG THANKS!

exec board

So to, Capt Harry Korrell – President, Leslie Tinker – Secretary, The Reinningers, Ree and Mike – Both serving as treasurers in the past term and Gary Smith – Sgt Sergeant of Arms and all previous leaders; thank you for your unique contributions and tireless efforts. We are forever in your debt for continuing to beat back the progressive attacks on our philosophies and standing firm in defense of our liberties. We are indebted to you and will count on your continued support. From time to time, we will seek your precious advice.

I would like to introduce to you your new leadership team, a fine mix of personalities with views that reflect a wide spectrum. Although we may not always agree on specific issues, we all agree that we must be unified and stand together as Republicans.

David Aughenbaugh – President

Stephan Chan – Vice President

Hillary Pennington – Secretary

Allison Baird – Treasurer

Gary Koloski – Sgt at Arms

Betsy Merena – Member at Large

David Camden – Member at Large

We challenge the single party rule within the great state of Maryland, and we seek to protect the very things that make us identify ourselves as Republicans. Our fight is for liberty. Our fight is for our inalienable rights and our fight is for the welfare and the protection of the people of our district and the American way of life. By taking a personal stake in our surrounding communities, we can make a difference. We need to prove that we are a viable, visible and worthy  organization. Only then can we expect, not only our fellow party members, but also the opposition, to take us seriously. We will be a force to be reckoned with.

While it may take some time to break the mold and step outside of our comfort zone, look for this team to create an environment that will focus on the following stems :

o Communicate

o Educate

o Activate

I hope that you share the excitement, as we do, and join us in our efforts. In the next few weeks we will undergo multiple changes to our media outlets, please be patient while we do a little housecleaning. I hope to see you soon. Please visit http://patapscovalleygop.org for more information.

Help Save Maryland Asks Governor O’Malley to Drop Charges Against Baltimore County Man Accused of Making "Threat"

ROCKVILLE MD – Help Save Maryland (HSM) asks Governor Martin O’Malley to drop charges against Walter Abbott, a Baltimore County man whose drywall business has been ruined by unfair competition from illegal aliens. The loss of his livelihood and home led Abbott to send an angry e-mail to Governor O’Malley on March 19, 2008. Abbott was subsequently arrested, held on $2 million bail and accused of threatening to "strangle" a public official.

"In no way does Help Save Maryland condone the use of threats and improper language," says Brad Botwin, HSM Director "But Mr. Abbott was understandably frustrated by the way unlicensed subcontractors hiring illegal aliens are allowed to undercut legitimate businesses in Maryland every day. State officials knowingly turn a blind eye to these labor and tax law violations. The fact that Mr. Abbott included his full name, address and phone number in his e-mail proves he was simply venting."

Mr. Abbott lost his first trial, but successfully appealed and is now scheduled for retrial on December 8, in the Circuit Court of Baltimore County, Towson.

Mr. Abbott and his entire family have suffered substantially, both financially and psychologically, for over 2 years. The State of Maryland should drop the charges against him immediately. To retry Abbott is a waste of Maryland’s resources, and makes Governor O’Malley look mean-spirited and petty.

"Instead, Governor O’Malley should take Mr. Abbott out for a ‘beer summit’ and listen to his story of the pain and suffering Maryland’s sanctuary status for illegal aliens or "New Americans" in O’Malley vernacular, is causing working-class citizens."

Help Save Maryland is a grass-roots, multi-ethnic, non-partisan, 501 (c) 3 volunteer citizens’ organization opposed to the use of tax dollars on programs and services for illegal aliens in Maryland. It has members in 23 counties plus Baltimore City.

TSA Scanners: Problem Solved!

SHARED WITH ME VIA EMAIL:

Here’s the solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports:

Have a booth that you can step into that will not x-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have on your body.

It would be a win-win for everyone, and there would be none of this crap about racial profiling.

This method would eliminate a long and expensive trial. Justice would be quick and swift.

This is so simple that it’s brilliant. I can see it now. You’re in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion.

Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system:

“Attention standby passengers. We now have a seat available on flight number 4665 “.

“Paging maintenance. Shop Vac needed in booth number 4″.
