Get Involved: National Call Congress Day (Oct 6th)

I think this sounds like a great idea.  What would happen if 15 million people picked up their phones (or sent an email) on October 6th.  I know I’ll be participating.  Pass the word and maybe, just maybe, we can send a message, like the ones we’ve been sending through tea parties and town halls.  Thanks Harry Korrell, president of PVRC, for sending me this announcement.

Americans for Prosperity

Yesterday was a victory for those who believe in a free market economy. The Senate Finance Committee, by a 15-8 margin, voted against an amendment to include the “public option” in the final version of the bill. All 10 Republicans along with 5 Democrats (Sens. Conrad, Lincoln, Nelson, Baucus and Carper) opposed the amendment introduced by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT), the chairman of the Committee, explained that he voted “NO” because the public option could not get 60 votes on the Senate floor.

While this is great news in the short term, we must continue to keep the pressure on our legislators. Some liberals in the Senate have already started to talk up the “nuclear option”, also known as reconciliation. In the House, Rep. Honda (D-CA) wrote a letter to push for illegal immigrants to be covered by the government-run insurance plan.

The threat of a government takeover of our health care is still alive and well. That is why AFP-Maryland encourages all of you to participate in “National Call Congress Day” on Tuesday October 6 th. This is a great way for the politicians in Washington to get the message: “Keep government’s hands off our health care!”

This is your last chance to attend Friday’s town hall meeting with members of Congress on Capitol Hill. You will have the opportunity to interact with members of Congress on the issues such as health care and cap and trade. Immediately thereafter, you will be going in groups to visit your representatives to make your voice heard. Nothing is more powerful than an office visit in Washington, DC.
