“I Voted Democrat Because…”

Disclaimer:  I did not write anything below this line.  I simply cut and pasted it from an email.  The original author is unknown to me.

When your friends can’t explain why they voted for Democrats, give them this list.  They can then pick a reason .

10. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies’ profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn’t.

9. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

8. I voted Democrat because Freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

7. I voted Democrat because I’m way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

6. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can’t tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don’t start driving a Prius.

5. I voted Democrat because I’m not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies through abortion so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

4. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits.

3. I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the democrats see fit.

2. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

1. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my ass it’s unlikely that I’ll ever have another point of view.

  1. LooneyJen says:

Well, hyperbole is always funny. With a lot of truth. And I chuckled and nodded through most of these all the while thinking, “Hmmm, these are GREAT conversation starters.”

Then I got to the last one and quite frankly, was kind of disgusted. Yes, I know the whole thing was intended to be mostly funny. (You’d be lying if you claimed it was all humor… grains of truth in all of it).

But the point is that comments like the last completely shut the door to any type of civil discussion or mutual respect. (The latter of which is necessary, whether either side likes it or not). Democrats are going to continue to see Republicans as stuck-up right wing nut jobs who attack, attack, attack, (and yes, Republicans will look at Democrats with disdain and the like for things they do as well), if this type of discourse is continually published.

I guess it bothers me because there’s absolutely no tie to any sort of political view point so the hyperbole just descends into nastiness. And I’m really sick of nastiness from Washington and its suitors.

Take the high road next time.

  2. Just to be clear, and I really should have added this to the top of the post…not sure why I didn’t, I did not write this. I simply copied it from a forwarded email.

Jen, I agree that it sounded crass and I probably would have written it differently. Actually I wouldn’t have written any of it, because I just don’t think like that, but I didn’t feel it was my place to alter someone else’s writing. Maybe I should not have posted it at all. Who knows?
